Abby Magalee

A native of Baltimore, Maryland, Abby graduated Cum Laude from Towson University, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance Performance, and a Bachelor of Science in Deaf Studies. While in school, Abby studied with choreographers Robert Battle, Runqiao Du, Linda Denise Fisher-Harrell, and Christopher K. Morgan. She has also studied in New York City with choreographers Sidra Bell, Kevin Wynn, Larry Keigwin, and Aszure Barton, and in Chicago with world-renown Hubbard Street Dance Chicago. Upon graduation, she spent two years performing and touring with Washington, D.C. contemporary dance company, DEVIATED THEATRE. Since arriving in the Twin Cities, Abby has had the opportunity to be a company member of Threads Dance Project, and is currently a member of hip-hop/contemporary company SHAPESHIFT. She made her debut at The Ordway in St Paul in 2016, in Irving Berlin’s White Christmas, and has since returned to play Margarita in West Side Story, and an ensemble member of In the Heights. When not on the stage, you can find Abby in classrooms around the Twin Cities, as a teaching artist who works closely with the disability community. She has been teaching various dance styles for the last five years, and is thrilled to be a part of the Heartbeat family!
