Emily Colay

Emily Colay has enjoyed an incredibly diverse and successful career as a premiere vocalist in the Twin Cities over the past 25+ years. As a singer/songwriter and accomplished live performance artist, her resume spans from headlining major music festivals with rock bands, to composing multi-voiced music for theatrical productions, conducting choirs of all ages, and as a go-to vocalist for studio recording. Trained in classical Bel Canto technique, her early years also included immersion in world music, as well as writing/performing in contemporary ensembles. This foundation has given her unique versatility, with a personal repertoire spanning dozens of languages, and just as many musical genres.

As an educator, Emily has taught in both public and private institutions. She shares an incredible wealth of experience with her students, encouraging them to explore the fullest potential of their vocal abilities. She teaches music as an oral tradition, as well as training them in classical technique. She conducts four choirs, teaches early-education music classes, and offers private vocal instruction.

Emily currently serves as the Vocal Music Director at Heartbeat Performing Arts Center. She is the Vocal Music composer and director for Vox Medusa. She performs with an all-women’s quartet, The Ages. She serves as Head Drummer for the Ayotlmeztli Moon Dance tradition. She is also the Owner/Director of a coming-of age program for tween/teen girls, 13 Moons for Girls.
